About

Rooted in Community. Focused on the Future.

For over 50 years, Southeast Community Services (SECS) has been a trusted presence on Indianapolis’ southeast side.

We were founded in 1972 through Mayor Richard Lugar’s office as a collaborative effort to bring much-needed resources to the neighborhood. Originally called the Southeast Multi-Service Center, our mission has remained consistent even as our name changed: to stand beside our neighbors and help them build a path toward lasting stability.

As the community has grown and evolved, so have we—always grounded in the belief that every person is capable, creative, and full of possibility.

Mission

To serve, strengthen, and support our neighbors on the southeast side of Indianapolis.

Vision

A thriving southeast side where every neighbor has the opportunity to move forward—and no one has to face challenges alone.

Our Approach & Values

At Southeast, we know that lasting change doesn’t come from a one-size-fits-all solution. That’s why our team builds trusted relationships, listens first, and walks alongside each neighbor as they define their own goals and future.

As a Center for Working Families, we offer bundled coaching in financial empowerment, education and employment, and access to essential resources like food, housing, and public benefits. This holistic, trauma-informed model supports the whole person—and the whole family—so neighbors can move forward with confidence in all areas of life.

We use a co-active coaching framework that centers each person’s voice and strengths, helping them identify opportunities, navigate complex systems, and make informed decisions about their next steps.

Equity, Inclusion, and Dignity for All

We believe in creating a space where everyone feels respected, valued, and seen. Promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion is not just part of our work—it’s at the heart of how we operate.

We are committed to removing barriers, breaking cycles of discrimination, and celebrating the diverse voices and experiences that strengthen our community.

Everyone is welcome at Southeast—and everyone deserves the opportunity to thrive.
